After trailing most of the game, the Eagles exploded for 23 4th quarter points to defeat the Patriots 66-62 in a non-conference tilt at Valley Forge HS on Friday night. Employing a trapping press for much of the second half, the varsity finally drew even with the Patriots at 51-51 with 6 minutes to play. Trading baskets, the game was again tied at 59-59 with 2:43 left in regulation. Sean Elbin and Austin Murphy each canned key sets of free throws down the stretch. Jared Strong contributed a key free throw to keep a 1-point margin and a tie-up for jump ball that allowed the Eagles to maintain possession at a crucial juncture. Jack Kelly and Murphy each made contested layups on run-outs to keep the Patriots at bay in the closing moments. Overcoming 11 3-point goals by Valley Forge, the team shot 19 for 24 from the charity stripe to gain a hard fought first victory of the season!
