The rock just would not drop through the net for the Eagles on 2 offensive rebounds and
put backs in the final seconds of a close, hard fought 56-54 loss to Midview. The Varsity
came out strong in the opening stanza with timely 3-point shooting to take a 19-11 lead
at the quarter break. Despite 5 3-point goals by Midview in the second quarter, the team
trailed only by 33-30 at the half. The Eagles tied the score at 35-35 midway through the
third quarter and at 44-44 midway through the fourth period on a bucket by Evan Grablovic. With the score at 52-47 in favor of Midview, a Jared Strong layup and 2 free throws by Jack Kelly brought the score to 52-51 with less than a minute to play. A free
throw by Grablovic with 28 seconds left shaved the Midview advantage to 54-52. When
the rock would not drop for the Eagles on their ensuing possession, they were forced to
foul with 10 seconds to go and Midview converted both charity tosses to extend their
lead to 56-52. Sean Elbin’s layup as time expired closed the scoring to the final, 56-54.
Scoring: Jared Strong 15; Evan Grablovic 13; Jack Kelly 10; Sam Bring 9;
