In the top of the first, Berea-Midpark jumped on the eagles early, scoring 1 run on 1 hit. The eagles would strike back scoring 3 runs on 2 hits and 2 errors. The game started of with a single by Balson. Healan threw the defense off with an outstanding fake bunt and hit that drew an error. Varnis loaded the bases with a walk. Burkey would then ROE by the right fielder scoring 2 runs. D’Onofrio brought in Burkey with a 2-out single. The score at the end of the first was 3-1 N.O.
In the second, BM scored 5 runs on 6 hits and 2 errors. The eagles went 1-2-3 on batters, leaving the score 6-3 BM.
In the third, the eagles shut BM down holding them to only 1 hit. Varnis led the bottom half of the inning with a hit, but got doubled off on a line drive by Laurenzi to short.
In the fourth, BM put the game nearly out of reach for the eagles, scoring 8 runs on just 5 hits and 4 errors. The eagles made an attempt to score in the bottom of the inning with back-to-back singles by Gallagher and D’Onofrio with no outs. Reich would then walk to load the bases, but the eagles were unable to score. The score at the end of the 4th was 14-3.
In the fifth inning, BM added 3 more runs to their lead on 3 hits and 1 error. Despite hits from Varnis and Laurenzi, the eagles were unable to keep the game alive.
The eagles lost 17-3 in 5 innings. North Olmsted will travel to Parma tomorrow in a non-conference game.
