For the second time in their last 3 games the Varsity was on the verge of breaking through to a win before dropping a hard fought contest to the Westlake Demons, 71-65. Aided by a raft of Demon fouls putting the Eagles in the 1 and 1 bonus early in the period, and paced by three 3-point goals by Jared Strong, the team built a 16-14 first quarter lead. The Eagles continued their aggressive play in the second quarter led by two 3-point baskets by Austin Murphy and 8 points in the quarter by Sean Elbin to take a 34-33 lead at intermission. The Demons battled back to lead 49-44 at the 3rd quarter break. The Eagles responded in the final period to close to 65-61 on a free throw by Elbin and to 69-65 on two free throws by Strong with 17 seconds to play. However the team could not get the defensive “stop” they needed to tie or take the lead before time expired. For the second game in a row, Jared Strong led the team with 24 points. Sean Elbin contributed a season-high 20 points and Austin Murphy canned 14 points.
