On May 24th the softball coaches in the Southwestern Conference met to determine All-SWC teams. Below are the winners from North Olmsted High School:
#17 Junior, Jessie Varnis – 2nd Team All-SWC
Jessie ended her season with a career high batting average of .352. She recorded 19 hits, 10 of which were for extra bases! She had 17 RBI’s and scored 12 times (despite being left on base 29 times). Jessie had 18 walks and was hit by the pitch 3 times. Her slugging percentage was .611 and her on base percentage was .533. Jessie was a team captain this year for the eagles. She intends to play college softball at Walsh University after she graduates. She made a lot of incredible plays at 1stbase putting out 109 batters. You can catch her in action this summer as she competes with the Akron Racers 16U Elite team! Jessie was also recognized as Honorable Mention All-NEO District.
#3 Senior, Cassie Burkey-Kubasky – Honorable Mention All-SWC
Cassie’s softball career isn’t over yet! She plans on attending Notre Dame College, OH in the fall to continue her softball career. Cassie hit .300 on the season in the clean-up position! She recorded 21 hits, 6 were for extra bases. She brought in 10 RBI’s and scored 10 runs herself. Cassie was selected as the team MVP for this season and received countless sportsmanship awards. She is our team captain and our rock behind the plate. She threw out 13 players behind the plate this season and picked off 3. She will truly be missed next year.
#15 Junior, Abbey Healan – Honorable Mention All-SWC
Abbey Healan is one of our 3 incredible starting outfielders. Abbey holds down left field for the eagles. She finished the season hitting a career high of .351, recording a team high of 27 hits, 6 of which were for extra bases! She brought in a team high of 18 RBI’s and scored 22 runs (despite being left on base 27 times). When Abbey wasn’t recording hits, she was still finding ways to get on base with 8 walks, 2 HBP, and she ROE 11 times. Abbey is lights out in the outfield and outstanding hitting in the 2 spot for the eagles. You can catch her in action this summer as she competes with the T3 Tsunami’s 16U. Abbey was also recognized as Honorable Mention All-NEO District.
