The Eagles had two student-athletes from the Boys Track & Field team with exceptional performances at Wednesday’s OHSAA District Tournament at Amherst High School. Junior pole vaulter Lucas Blaufuss and sophomore discus thrower Tyler Jones represented the squad and will be the two Field Event members to advance to Regionals next Wednesday, May 24th, at Amherst High School.
Lucas posted a 13 foot 9 inch jump to place first overall in the District. The 13’9″ jump tied a personal best which he achieved during his school-record breaking jump at the SWC Championships last Wednesday. The junior is now a conference and district champion, and will have to place in the top four out of 16 participants next week in order to advance to the State Finals in Columbus.
Tyler followed up a personal best throw of 148 feet and third place finish at last week’s SWC Championships with a 146 foot 2 inch throw at yesterday’s District Meet. The throw would be good enough to place him in the top four, advancing him to next week’s Regional Meet at Amherst. Tyler will also look for another top four finish in order to advance to the State Meet.
Both student-athletes are nominated for our 1st Annual Spring Sports ESPY Award. Lucas is nominated for Male Student-Athlete of the Spring and Tyler is nominated for Breakthrough Athlete of the Spring.
The NOHS ESPY (Excellence in Sports Yearly) Awards provide a reward for our student-athletes that recognize their performance and hard work throughout the season. The four award categories include:
- Male-Student Athlete of the Spring Season
- Female Student-Athlete of the Spring Season
- Breakthrough Athlete of the Spring Season
- Best Team of the Spring Season
Spring sports ESPY voting will close on May 31st
The spring sports nominated winners will join the fall and winter season winners for a final end of the year vote for the NOHS 2016-2017 ESPY Award Winners.
Congratulations Lucas and Tyler, Go Eagles!
