North Olmsted High School head hockey coach TJ Murray was awarded The Morning Journal Coach of the Year for high school hockey. Murray led the Eagles to a Red South Division championship with a 15-12-3 overall record. It wasn’t the easiest of seasons for Murray and the Eagles, a talented group but only 13 members on the squad in November, seeing that number reduced to 9-10 by January due to injuries and other commitments.
While Murray will give all the credit to his players, you cannot disregard the in-game management from the fourth-year coach knowing the minimal number of players available and how to bring the best out of his players.
The team had to overcome a lot throughout the season, and the Eagles did just that, winning the Red South Division, being a Baron Cup Finalist, a plus-23 goal differential in league play, and multiple players earning All-Star accolades. Congrats to Coach Murray and the Eagles!
