Game Recap

The Varsity attacked the basket aggressively in the opening quarter sparked by 6 points apiece by Josh Hufstetler and Rico Concepcion, and 5 points by Andrew Bussman chiefly on close in baskets and layups. Despite the fact that North Olmsted outrebounded the Comets 25 to 10 for the half, Amherst shot 6 for 10 from the 3-point arc to take a 31-29 lead at the half. The teams traded baskets in the third quarter and the score was tied at 41 with 2:58 left in the quarter. At that point, Josh Hufstetler caused an Amherst turnover and converted it into a run out basket and an “and 1” free throw to put our team into the lead 44 to 41. The quarter ended with North Olmsted ahead 48 to 47. Jon Kramer hit a 3-pointer with 1:15 to play to pull the Eagles into a tie with the Comets at 61-61. North Olmsted attempted to run the clock down calling 2 time outs when Amherst trapped the ball. With 13 seconds left, the Eagles in-bounded the ball for the final play but Jack Kelly’s shot at the horn fell short forcing overtime. In the overtime period the Eagles ran out of gas as Amherst made 9 foul shots in outscoring our team 12 -2 to take a 73 to 63 victory. Hufstetler had 27 points to lead the team. Andrew Bussman contributed 14 points, Jack Kelly 7 points, and Jon Kramer and Rico Concepcion each had 6 points. It was the Eagles’ first overtime game this season.
