Game Recap

The Varsity jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the opening quarter and extended their lead during the quarter to 11-3, finishing the quarter ahead 13 to 5. Lakewood hit some shots in the second period and closed the gap a bit bringing the score at half time to 24-16 in favor of the home team. The Eagles stole Lakewood’s initial in bound pass to open the third quarter and Josh Hufstetler converted a run out lay up to put the Rangers back on their heels. The visitors regrouped however and the third quarter score was close, but still in favor of the Eagles, 30 to 24. The home team put the game away in the fourth quarter hitting 12 of 13 foul shots when the Rangers had to foul to get back in the game. Josh Hufstetler had a game high 29 points. Ben Lima had 8 points; Jack Kelly 6; Rico Concepcion 7; and Andrew Bussman 4 points for the victors. The team shot an outstanding 19 for 23 from the free throw line, making them mostly in the fourth quarter with the game in doubt. The Eagles improved their overall record to 9 and 7 and are 7 and 6 in the SWC, and are currently in 5th place behind Berea Midpark, Avon, Avon Lake, and Westlake.
