Game Recap

The Eagles got off to a promising start by opening up a 13 to 5 lead over Avon on the strength of 7 points from Jack Kelly and 5 points by Josh Hufstetler in the opening quarter. However Avon picked up their effort late in the quarter and the teams were tied at 13 going into the second period. The second quarter saw the Eagles’ key players (Hufstetler, Lima, Kelly and Bussman) all get into serious foul trouble at the same time Avon was hitting 5 3-point baskets to take a 36-22 lead into the locker room at the half. Knowing they had to win the first 4 minutes of the quarter, the Eagles came out strong in the third quarter and drew closer to Avon (44-35) with 2:31 left in the quarter. Andy Bussman had to leave the game with an injury at that point and the 3-ball “rain” began again resulting in a 55-38 lead for Avon at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter was more of the same as Avon sank 4 more 3-point baskets for a game total of 13 to win “going” away, 75 to 48. Our Eagles played hard but could not overcome a very hot shooting night by their opponents. Josh Hufstetler led the team in scoring one last time in his outstanding career scoring 17 points. Jack Kelly added 11 points. The “off-season” began for our team at the final horn and the coaches are looking forward to a promising crop of underclassmen who will work hard to get better for next season.
